Alaska has not yet enacted legislation or promulgated regulations pertaining to the geologic storage of CO2 in the state. It is, however, in the final stages of completing a report that examines a variety of issues related to carbon capture and storage in the state. At the request of the Governor, the report is being undertaken by the Alaska Subcabinet for Climate Change. It is likely to conclude that no new laws or regulations are needed for CO2 storage in conjunction with EOR but that legislation and regulations would likely be needed for non-EOR CO2 geologic storage in the state. The report is expected to be completed by September of 2010 and could include recommendations for consideration by the state legislature in 2011.
