EPA Finalizes Rule - Federal Requirements for Geologic sequestration of CO2 – Class VI

EPA announces the Federal Requirements Under the Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program for Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Geologic Sequestration (GS) Wells Final Rule. The notice was signed by Lisa P. Jackson, Administrator on November 22, 2010 for publication in the federal register. The final rule establishes new federal requirements for the underground injection of carbon dioxide for the purpose of long-term underground storage, or geologic sequestration, and a new well class – Class VI – to ensure the protection of underground sources of drinking water (USDWs) from injection related activities.
